5 of the Best Places to Enjoy Negril, Jamaica, Snorkeling
1. Negril Reef
The Negril Reef is very shallow, making it perfect for snorkeling. As you snorkel below the depths, you’ll see swarms of tiny jellyfish floating through the clear water. Don’t worry, they’re as harmless as they are mesmerizing. Below, the ground is covered in an array of urchins, conch shells, and sea fans. Take a trip out to the reed with one of the glass bottom boats like the Sea Breeze of Famous Vincent.
2. Pristine Cove at Rockhouse Hotel
Pristine Cove at Rockhouse Hotel has become one of the most popular Negril, Jamaica, snorkeling sites for our guests. Our sister hotel is just a 10-minute drive away. Lower yourself into this beautiful, blue water from the ladders attached to the rocks. Colorful coral heads and reef fish are plentiful here! Explore Joseph’s Cave under Pushcart where some scenes from the movie 2,000 Leagues Under the Sea were shot. Afterwards, relax in the sun as you sip on a freshly-squeeze juice from the Rockhouse Juice Bar.
3. Half Moon Beach
Not only is Half Moon Beach one of our favorite secluded beaches, it is also a great place for snorkeling. Located about 15 minutes from Skylark, this beach boasts some of the most beautiful, undisturbed coral reefs in Jamaica. Because it is in a bay, the water is very calm and enjoyable for a snorkeling excursion. Some of the best snorkeling is around the offshore island, so swim, paddle, or boat out to it to explore.
4. Booby Cay Island
If you’re looking for a secluded spot to enjoy some snorkeling in Negril, head to Booby Cay Island. This small island sits just offshore of Negril and gets its name from the booby birds that inhabit it. The snorkeling opportunities are spectacular here; the plethora of coral reefs below the water’s surface are home to thousands of colorful marine creatures. You have to take a boat to get to this island, so it is usually quiet.
5. The Cave Beneath the Caves
Adventure seekers love to explore The Caves. Located beneath the exclusive hotel, The Caves, they are some of the largest caves on the cliffs. These caves are unique for snorkelers to experience because there are all sorts of hidden coves you can swim to and explore.
